THE PEOPLE’S PETITION TO RECLAIM GRACE CHAPEL
This Petition is put forth by the undersigned individuals in good faith and firm conviction:
WHEREAS, we have invested our time, treasure, and very souls into Grace Chapel since it was founded twenty-seven years ago; and,
WHEREAS, we desire for Grace Chapel to return to the active, effective, and purpose-driven, Christ-centered church it has been since its inception; and,
WHEREAS, Grace Chapel was founded on Biblical principles by our Founding Pastor, Steve Berger; and,
WHEREAS, we, the people of Grace Chapel did support, invest, and belong to a courageous church, unwilling to be meaningless, but rather willing to be bold for truth in a culture that wants God, Jesus, and indeed Christianity itself removed, and its churches to be spineless and weak; and,
WHEREAS, for 27 years, we, the people of Grace Chapel, have been led courageously by Pastor Steve Berger, whose reputation and legacy are valuable to us, and deserving of our respect; and,
WHEREAS, the body of Grace Chapel trusted our leadership and a new lead pastor to Biblically and respectfully guide us through this transition and into the future; and,
WHEREAS, the body of Grace Chapel has patiently waited for our leadership and pastors to do what is right; and,
WHEREAS, our leadership and pastors have failed us.
THEREFORE, WE DO HEREBY DEMAND:
1. The current Lead Pastor immediately resign or be terminated; and,
2. Steve Berger be reinstated as Founding Pastor of Grace Chapel and designated as a member of the Board of Elders; and,
3. A Pastor Search Committee be formed to locate a new Lead Pastor who will act responsibly and respectfully towards our founding principles, pastor, and his family; and,
4. The immediate resignation of any board or staff member that cannot support these resolutions.
The undersigned petitioners demand these actions immediately. We believe Grace Chapel can and should return to its Biblical, Christ-centered teachings, and that our current leadership has engaged in actions that are not God-ordained. We believe that Grace Chapel belongs to the people of God’s church, and we refuse to stand by silently while our church continues to flounder and the body of the church suffers. The undersigned vow to withhold financial support, volunteer support, and other enablement unless and until our demands are met.

I support this petition! Clearly this church needs new leadership! Imprecatory prayers? What kind of pastor would preach such a horrible thing? The two or three witness sermon - yikes! Also mandatory reporting was not taken seriously in the church according to a recent article. It is not a pastors job to believe accusations or not, they are required to report it!

I’d like to bring my kids back to Grace Chapel Liepers Fork and can not do so until the leadership comes clean with truth and reconciles with the founding leadership, departed staff, and many families that will not silently stand by and watch the church implode. We are a new family, started attending Oct 2020 and we are here because of the legacy of what this church has always been and the power of the Spirit that was evident. Please do not confuse new people with thinking we have the desire to leave behind the roots that made this church what it is. Restore what is right.
This church belongs to the people of the community not a handful of bad management. I do not stand with lying and concealing of truth. I have not jumped to sign this petition but a pastor that goes to the media during a time of healing is lacking maturity, wisdom, and discernment and a pastor that alters the wording of a critical email communication is deceptive and foolish to think he wouldn’t be found out. Reconciliation is needed and new leadership is demanded.

Steve Berger & faithful members of Grace Chapel got me thru my darkest days of life wile going thru a divorce and moving from Nashville to Franklin in 2007. After moving to Rogers, AR in 2014, I continued to pay my tithes to GC and watch Sunday services online and visited GC in person every time I was back in Middle TN. Steve taught me how to discipline my life with daily devotions, taught me boldness and nurtured my personal relationship with Jesus in ways no other church pastor has ever done in my entire life (I grew up in a Baptist church in TX). Watching what happened to this founding pastor and his family online was gut-wrenching and our prayers have not stopped for GC family members who have had to make sense of something so horrible. Sadly we have seen Grace Chapel turn away from its roots and divine identity. We pray for healing and restoration, boldness and courage to stand up to the deception attempting to destroy all that has been built by the blood, sweat and tears of members who have come before.
I support, honor and respect Pastor Steve and Sarah Burger. I appreciate their years and years of dedication.

I actually couldn’t be more opposed to this petition. 280+ people have chosen the way of divisiveness and the city of Spring Hill looks on in disgust. I feel like the creators of this petition listened to “who killed Mars Hill” and decided to do the complete opposite of what it would teach any logical person who listened. You’ve abandoned the humble and submissive ways of Jesus and drawn your sword, cutting off ear after ear. For the sake of the kingdom, let this go and allow the Holy Spirit to convict. Steven Berger is the only pastor that has had my full attention in church the for the whole sermon for as long as I can remember. and for what I have learned from his sermons, I believe that he should remain as the founder, as his teachings are true to the Bible and to mankind.
My husband and I have ministered at Grace Chapel a few times over the years as guest worship leaders. Pastor Steve Berger’s leadership has impacted our lives. We were always so moved by our experience at Grace Chapel. To see this church in such a weakened state under the new leadership in place is heartbreaking.

My family and the Berger family have been dear friends for over 16 years. From the matriarch, Mary, to her three amazing sons all the way down to her beautiful great-grandchildren. I once called Steve and told him that I had a friend wishing to be baptized and he dropped what he was doing and came straight to my house. He counseled and prayed with my friend and they were baptized that day in my backyard pool thanks to Steve's immediate response. Maybe I shouldn't weigh in on this because our family has been attending GC Fairview since September and love it and Pastor Ian Gilchrist dearly. But I will say; Confusion has reigned supreme in GC Leipers Fork as of late. Odd messaging followed by promises of answers that prove to be ambiguous or unclear. Previously common information scrubbed from the website (Elders, Financial Board Members, etc.). Even GC L.F.'s own statement about their confusion over who was in what position and when. The spirit of Confusion is firmly planted there. We have none of that confusion in Fairview. It is a happy, harmonious, growing and ANNOINTED place! The author of confusion is not welcome there. 1 Corinthians 14:33 Pastor Ian just reminded us of when Nehemiah had built the wall and, in theory, should have been enjoying his life (Nehemiah 13:7 and forward); he had to go back in and mop up a mess that had been allowed to happen in the absence of his watchful eye. It was a painful and difficult time but it had to be done. Is that the situation here and now? I don't know. But it is certainly something to think about, consider, pray over. What I do know is that the current situation in Leipers Fork is unsustainable and I feel bad for those who don't know what to think or what to do.

Over the past several years, I have watched how Pastor Steve and Sarah have endured and handled the personal slander and lies against them from both long time “friends” and lying media outlets. When asked for a response, theirs has been “NO COMMENT” - they know that The Lord fights their battles - this is the actions of true Holy Spirit filled leaders. Years ago, I heard Pastor Steve say “Out of radical obedience, comes the ridiculous, miraculous favor of God” - I am seeing Gods ridiculous, miraculous favor being poured out on Pastor Steve and Sarah and their precious family because of their obedience to stay true to Gods Word and making HIS name famous, no matter the costs - these are the leaders that Bill and I want to go into battle with! We were all hopeful that Rob would be able to lead our church successfully .It is sad, and continually obvious that he is not capable at this point to do that. I have considered GC Leiper's Fork TN my home church since 2002. I feel the church has been infiltrated and taken over. I strongly believe that the church which was started and built up by Steve Berger is rightfully his and his congregation's.

I have been going to Grace Chapel and Leipers Fork since 2004. I I have started going to Grace Chapel in Fairview since the Sunday that there was so much confusion and no answers to what was going on and not really trusting the leader ship and how things were handled.
Like many of you, I have struggled with signing this petition as it has the likelihood of igniting additional controversy. Why do we fear that? What has occurred within us that we fear engaging in meaningful debate? While freedom allows us to achieve material comfort, it is only true freedom if it is accompanied by moral, considerate, sacrificial living-standing boldly for truth in those critical issues that have enormous consequences. The downside of freedom is when we take for granted the fruit of that bold freedom and laze into a self-satisfied, entertainment saturated state of being where the only considerations become comfort and lack of controversy. Truth suffers and for the sake of that temporary comfort, the fear of truth takes root, and our eternal enemy takes ground. The downside of freedom is selfish, ungrateful, and sinful, and it contributes to the very personal, societal, and organizational ills that we all bemoan- We get the kind of leadership we deserve. I only know this because I’ve been guilty of it. I’m done with that now. Salvations and sanctifications are at stake. Over the last few weeks as my family and I have navigated the pain and bewilderment of the deterioration of our church home of 20 years and the accompanying complications within long held relationships with brothers and sisters in Christ, and the fellowship we held so dear, I have had to dig very deep to discern the causes of the implosion that has occurred and lay responsibility where it rightfully lies. The stories of both mature believers with near empty faith tanks and new believers who have abandoned Christ seeking, along with the resignations of vital tenured staff and longtime members demand it. The divisive behind the scenes departure from the spirit and letter of the transition agreement, lack of rightful honoring of Founding Pastor Steve Berger’s legacy of sacrificial service and accomplishment (in deeds, not words), transparent and embarrassing private and public displays of false narrative management and half humble “apologies” that we would never allow our children to offer (much less the shepherd of a Kingdom flock), welcoming in the worldly enemies in the secular press (who delight in this division and use it to mock everything we’ve sacrificed and labored to build) are just some of the failures at the root of this tragedy, and are no foundation for the return of the kind of Kingdom victories that have always made Grace Chapel a place that our families and staff have been thrilled to welcome visitors in to. So very sadly, it is not that now. Oh God, please!

Bev and I started attending in 97, as services were held at the school. We immediately saw how well the Word was being taught by Steve and that was the foundation, the Word! No soft pedaling, just solid food, how the Bible says to teach it. You were excited to be involved and serve because you knew God was doing a great work. To say we were disheartened when Steve was betrayed by the staff people he trusted is an understatement. Going to the local, predatory media to validate their betrayal is telling. Bring back the burned podium, the reminder that one can be stricken by fire. We need Servant Leadership in action. This church schism leaves one Person suffering the most: God the Father. The Bible warns against speaking against a man of God, and such is Pastor Steve Berger. Whatever differences may have come about, please remember that through Pastor Steve, Grace Chapel was founded, reaching indescribable heights by God's anointing upon him, emboldened by the power of the Holy Spirit, and by his love and care shepherding the flock entrusted to his leadership by God. Personally, Pastor Steve Berger and Sarah (through their leadership- teaching), made a huge impact on my life, as the Lord used them to draw me closer to Himself, entering into a new dimension of God's Kingdom during a season of significant loss. I attended and volunteered at Grace Chapel under Pastor Steves leadership for many many years and I have been heartbroken to hear of his mistreatment, lack of honor and respect. I hope that the light is shone into the darkness and that Grace Chapel may return to the foundations Pastor Steve and the whole Berger family have set in place and may God receive all the glory.

I have visited Grace Chapel several times while staying with friends who live in Franklin. Each time i was so encouraged by Steve Berger’s TV boldness to speak the Truth in love. It was so obvious that his only mission was to teach his flock how to run all decisions through the grid of the scriptures. Thus i was devastated to hear of the implosion. I was very disappointed that the leadership allowed the newspaper to become involved. Why?, would be my question. And even more disappointing is that your lead pastor, Rob, labeled Steve Berger an “extremist” in the article. Such poor form. The dishonor towards Pastor Steve Berger and the grace chapel family by the current lead pastor Rob Rogers and the leadership since the transition; and his straying from biblical truth has led grace chapel Franklin astray from the solid, unapologetic, Christ centered church it was under the leadership of the Founding Pastor, Steve Berger; to a now “world pleasing”, God dishonoring, watered down church.
Steven Burger was very influential on our family and we respect him immensely. His leadership and Godly guidance has been what has sustained us in times of turmoil and heartbreak. He has been someone to turn to for Godly perspective and wisfom. He was the founder of Grace Chapel. Time and time again the current Franklin leadership has failed as leaders. When the going got tough that Sunday, Rob ran away. Why so scared to stay and talk with the congregation? I support this petition. On “Speak out Sunday” there were only a handful of people left standing on that stage to face the congregation. They are the true leadership of GCLF. They did not abandon us in our hour of need – they did not run away and threaten to quit during the crisis our church faced. Anyone who left the building or stayed on that stage to shout down the founding pastor must be replaced with people of strength to handle the hard stuff. On all social media platforms Steve has continued to be a source of spiritual guidance and encouragement since THAT day of truth. Where have the current pastor and leadership been? MIA – except behind closed doors spinning a crafted message to a hurting congregation. I support Steve’s ASI ministry and continued involvement with GCLF to lead us back to the church we once were especially as our world become increasingly more difficult. The idea to restructure GCLF into a cowardly seeker friendly church is unacceptable.

I've been attending Grace Chapel since about 2010 and have been truly blessed and challenged by the words God's been laying on Pastor Steve's and Sarah's hearts as they have taught us over the years. The Lord provided us with an amazing Spirit-filled vessels to teach the Truth of His Word. I'm completely saddened and disappointed in the direction GC has gone. Just the simple act of replacing the iconic burnt podium, that reminded us to be On Fire For the Lord, showed me that the new leadership was dismissing the foundation and legacy Pastor Steve and his family built - under the Guidance of Jesus, After THAT Sunday, I stopped my regularly scheduled tithing and have no desire to return to GC at this time, unless changes are made to bring back the Spirit-filled, unwavering teachings of our Lord and Savior.

A lot of time and effort was put in to this church by myself and friends. We supported Steve and we’re at the church because of him. He was a pastor of Trueheart who loves Jesus. His blood sweat and tears have been completely negated for a power grab. The complete insurrection of the board Jonathan, Mark and everyone else that Steve brought in to that church and gave income and security to has caused so much hurt to the church and Steve.

I started attending Grace Chapel 4 years ago. I was hungry for a church that wasn't just luke warm. My friend invited me to Grace and it spiritually changed my life. Steve's truthful and passionate sermons was the on fire bold church I had been searching for. The Holy Spirit's prescence was so strong in the church. Grace has now become the Luke warm church I left years ago. It is really hard to find a pastor or a church that stands on God's truths no matter what or who it may offend. We want Steve back!
The church has changed majorly, it used to be so pretty and full of life with beautiful paintings on the walls for children and now it looks like a prison with normal gray walls hard floors and not even to mention Steve is gone. I want it to go back to how it was.

We were very disappointed with Rob’s and the elder’s hiding information and handling of the dramatic events that have occurred since THAT Sunday. We respect his decision to step down and focus on ASI. However, we would love to see his rightful position with a seat on the board as founding pastor. We would love for him to have pulpit time and most importantly—if he will not return to minister full time at GC, we feel that he should help make the decisions for the next pastoral leadership.

I will not sit by idle any longer and watch the destruction crumble Grace Chapel from the inside out. Steve and Sarah have been betrayed, slandered, and absolutely under attack. I was some of the few who gathered first at the school. I prayed over the land the church is built on. Watched as the saying goes if you build it they will come. The Word and vision that was given to Pastor Steve had come to life. What wasn’t broken doesn’t need to be fixed. The results of so many leaving the church speaks for itself. To return Grace Chapel Liepers Fork to the Bible teaching house of God that was founded by Pastor Steve Berger. The chaos and failure by the current leadership is heartbreaking and must be corrected. We need truth and integrity returned to GCLF immediately.
I’ve been there for 27 years until Covid and then this BS Grace Chapel “IS” Steve Berger and not all these half/mushy Christians!!!!!
GC has been my church for 20 years. The Truth of the gospel has been preached unashamedly with unbridled courage and the utmost humility by Steve Berger. He needs to be re-instated as Founding pastor.

After years of listening and watching online of my brother in the faith Pastor Steve Berger, teaching, encouraging, and edifying, boldly yet humbly speaking God's Word of Truth. I know not only my heart, but many were broken in the church. Has there ever been such a division, and disruption while Pastor Steve was there? Not that I know of, I know our Redeemer lives, And He makes All things work together for our good. Lord have Your way in this matter in Jesus Holy matchless name Amen ???? ?
Demanding the take back of the Grace Chapel Church
Because I believe there has been extremely ungodly behavior and justice is needed

As a member of GC and a family who stands for truth!
We have lived through this nightmare long enough. We would love to see this church taken back for the furthering of Gods Kingdom

What happened at Grace Chapel was born from the sin of pride and a desire for power and influence by the current lead pastor and leadership team. That sin is still unrepented of, and the church is suffering for it. I pray for the leadership team to be broken before the Cross in humility and repentance. They are not qualified for leadership.

Pastor Steve is Pastor Steve. The Lord used Pastor Steve to plant. Water. And Tend. God anointed him
