For years, the Glen Oaks Therapeutic Day School at the Pheasant Ridge Campus has been neglecting students with IEP accommodations, while also maintaining oppressive systems that are unnecessary for individuals functioning at a high mental level. A prime example is the point sheet system, which tracks behavior, and many students feel it imposes arbitrary rules on those who are intellectually average or even above average. Additionally, the program designed for individuals transitioning into adulthood often treats mature, college-age students as if they were much younger, continuing to apply the same behavior point system typically used for children.
It is time for us to advocate for change, working to transform this facility into a more compassionate, respectful, and empowering environment for all students.
