Dear Mr. Strong,
I’m a resident of Dorado, Puerto Rico and I write this letter with my fellow community members to provide feedback and bring to your attention the dramatic improvements that are needed to Orlando Health’s capabilities at your facility in Dorado.
In addition to being someone who has had personal experience with the hospital, I am also the CEO and founder of the Global Rescue Companies, an organization that provides medical, security, evacuation and travel risk management services worldwide. As such, I have some familiarity with how medical services are delivered at care facilities around the world.
On the evening of January 17, my 44-year-old friend and neighbor in Dorado suffered a medical emergency. I was first on scene to perform CPR and we rushed him to the ED at your Dorado facility. We were greeted in the ambulance bay by a team that was at best disorganized and at worst unprepared for the seriousness of his case. There was a lack of urgency and minutes passed before the critically needed lifesaving care began to be administered. Approximately 30 minutes after our arrival, we were told he didn’t make it. While we’ll never know whether a better led, equipped and organized team could have changed this tragic outcome, I later discovered that he had sought treatment in the days prior at your facility for elevated blood pressure, tingling and tachycardia. He was not able to access potentially lifesaving care and he left at least one visit in frustration after waiting many hours to be seen.
Although his experience is likely the most extreme, I have heard from dozens of others about the substandard care at the OH facility. Based on this, I would not recommend anyone seek care there for any reason, which is a shame given the effort and expense invested in the development of the hospital and its proximity to a community badly in need of high quality health care with the ability to pay for it.
Our Dorado community needs four things, two of which should be provided by Orlando Health Dorado:
Community leadership would like to collaborate with OH to make items #2 and #3 a reality. Without these services, more preventable bad outcomes will inevitably happen and lives will be lost. We are committed to making these improvements with OH or finding an alternative solution to support the critical healthcare needs of our community.

The people of PR deserve better healthcare
I have had multiple poor encounters at this emergency room. The ER lacked even basic supplies to treat my 2-year-old’s open wound. After waiting about 5 hrs for another hospital in the area to deliver skin glue, it never arrived. The doctor in the ER had to send someone to her own personal home to pick up some supplies and bring them to the hospital. That doctor quit shortly after in complete frustration with the lack of organization at the hospital. Also, there is only one doctor on call in the ER for both adults and pediatrics. This makes ER visits take an inordinate amount of time and is completely inefficient and dangerous. It can literally take hours to see a doctor for the first time just to be evaluated for potentially life threatening symptoms.

I went to the hospital for potential cardiac arrest signs, and was not even admitted for almost a half of an hour. After doing so, there was one doctor in the entire hospital. They suggested that I get an IV, which was positioned so that nothing actually dripped into my arm, and when they came back an hour later, they had to raise it in order for it to be effective. They concluded that nothing was wrong even though I have a history of heart issues in the family. The doctor was not even the one who diagnosed me, it was the nurse who said that my heart rhythm looked OK. The issue is that my heart rhythm was not OK in the lobby nor when they had the EKG machine on me. This place is totally underfunded and is disappointing that they can only staff one doctor in the entire hospital when they spent tons of millions of dollars constructing the facility.

My husband recently had 4 MRI's done for an aNkle injury. It took over a week for the MRI!s to be read. My husband went to the department several times asking for the results and was told that the results would be ready the next day. That never happened. He has serious injuries to muscles and tendons. Last October my father age 78 and myself were sent to the ER at Orlando Health after experiencing an accident with a grill where both of us experienced significant smoke inhalation. A great need in our community.
I am sure many of us, residents and families of Dorado, have given some chances to this ER, but unfortunately most of the experiences have been suboptimal or bad. We do not know if the hospital’s leadership has the intention of making this ER a good or state-of-the-art facility or maybe the new administration has not yet clear objectives; perhaps the partners —Florida and PR institutions- are not synchronized. I believe it is a great idea to talk to them in order to clarify our expectations. Without clear objectives and a good professional team good services cannot be delivered, moreover, without many patients a good professional team will not be able to sustain itself on the long run. Horrible waiting time for the OBYNG my time slot was at 10am at 12:00m talk to them again she said my meeting was at 1pm. I book it via phone. They finally meet me near 1:30 pm. Awful Gave me services I didn’t need if she read my file and listen to me. With that many technology you expect quality of service and TIME MANAGEMENT

We've had an unfortunate experience attempting to use this ER for a minor injury, which took an absurd amount of time to manage via triage and care at a time the hospital was not busy. We'll never use it again, until the quality improves. We're ready to pay a premium for quality care, as are others; please recruit enough quality doctors to justify the use of the term in the name of the hospital.
Low quality care for such a well established are of the island with plenty of financial support, it’s a shame.

It's sad, but it's true. My 16 year old daughter had severe headaches late at night, when we enter the waiting room there was no personnel on the desk, we waited around 10 minutos or more... no one appeared.... We just left... we will never go back...

I know someone who had a bike accident that broke his collarbone. Despite the Orlando Hospital being 5 minutes from the scene of the accident he concluded not to seek treatment at that Hospital. Orlando Hospital’s reputation is so bad that an individual with a broken bone decides not to seek treatment there. It’s a serious failure to provide such bad care that no one wants to go there for treatment.

Went to emergency room back in 2022. Waited too long before I asked to be transported by ambulance to Doctor’s in Manatí. Manatí was and is a much more mature organization.

I have been a resident of Dorado for 10 years. The hospital is an absolute joke. I hate driving by it because it symbolizes the complete lack of planning and organization that is characteristic of services on the island. If you build it, they will come- except this is not field of dreams it’s a hospital providing essential, life saving services.. It’s such a shame to see millions of dollars literally wasted when it the community is in desperate need of better healthcare. It is the number one reason I am hesitant about how much longer I can keep my family here. I have not personally been because of all the negative feedback from friends and neighbors.

I took had a bad experience being treated in Orlando Health for diverticulitis. My IV bag of antibiotics was empty for 2 hrs because a male nurse told me that they were short of staff and there were people more critical than I was to attend. I felt unsafe in a hospital when I was suppose to be treated with proper care andI was told that I couldn't go home for having severe case of abdominal pains caused by diverticulitis infection.

I recently had 2 MRI’s done for both of my shoulders. The receptionist gave me a phone to call to verify when the results were ready. I must have called 30x over the course of a few weeks. No one ever answered and no one reached out to me. I had to stop in the hospital every time to check on them. For one of the MRI’s, I had to wait several additional days to receive because they didn’t have doctor available to review it. After a week plus of added wait time, they finally sent it out to Boston for someone to read. Additionally, on one of my MRI’s, they mixed up my birthday (flipped month and year), that resulted in every doctor not being able to use/save my scans.
Orlando Health should follow Dan’s advice and guidance.

I’ve been there before for High blood pressure, the service is very slow. I got to the hospital around 12:30 pm and left at 11:00 pm. From triage to labs, X-rays, IVs and results took forever. All just to tell me to tell my Dr I needed a high dosage on my Hbp medication. I will say the staff is very nice, patient and are doing their job, but the response to any emergency needs to be a little more faster.

We went to OH hospital to get an MRI in my son’s shoulder. The MRI was done timely but there was not a doctor to read the images for 2 weeks. We did not get the MRI results for 2 weeks. We flew back to mainland to have another MRI in the meantime as no one can wait that long when they have an injury.

Orlando Health needs to overhaul its Faculty with an emphasis on competent ER services. Board Certified Emergency Medicine physicians should be present 24/7. There should be no artificial limitations to the recruitment of qualified physicians.
Terrible experience going to the ER at Orlando health when my mother broke her arm. They didn’t have anyone to give her a cast! Took hours to take an X-ray because staff didn’t know how to use equipment. Basically wasted her time.
Have visited the Hospital in the past
Around a year ago (give or take) we took our 7yo child to the ER at Orland Health for a high fever that wouldn’t break and labored breathing. We were there for many hours, and they did not so much as take her temperature until we demanded they do. When they did, it was 104 and they gave her OTC Tylenol and did nothing more. We tried to leave to go to another hospital since she was not receiving care, and they would not allow it. We had to call a private ambulance to come transport my daughter to another hospital so she could get the care she needed. Fast forward to current, my son had a motor vehicle accident and we took him to a hospital ER all the way in San Juan because we knew he would not receive urgent or sufficient care at Orland Health.
Hospital & emergency services should be the top priority for any country.
As a physician I am appalled by the lack of high quality care at such a new facility. I hope we as a community can work together to make a significant change for the better so Dorado has a trusted hospital it’s residents can go to for all their medical needs.

As a trained peripheral vascular surgeon with prior hospital ownership experience and having acted as a pro-bono consultant to this hospital prior to the purchase by Orlando Health, I thoroughly agree with this letter. Right now the hospital has lost all credibility with the upscale community it was intended to serve. The promises made to the residents of Dorado Beach and adjacent Dorado developments have not been kept. It’s a shame that a fabulous, well designed and equipped facility has turned into such a disappointment. I have personally attempted to use the facility myself and was thoroughly frustrated. I took my 3 year old son there that had pneumonia. They said that they couldn’t help me but called an ambulance and made me wait 3 hours for it to arrive and sent me to the hospital in San Juan. I could’ve drove him there myself and saved 400 dollars and 3 hours of criticism time. His oxygen levels were at 82

I had an awful experience too. I was having a bad cough and since I have an existing pulmonary condition decided to go to the E.R to get at least some chest X-rays and be treated asap since it was a weekend. I got there at 1:00 pm and they took forever., I’ve waited like two hours to be called for vitals ( there were only 3 patients in the waiting room) and another couple of hours to be seen by a doctor and then another long wait to get treated and X-rays and then the most ridiculous of all, waiting for about two hours just to get the discharge papers!!! . It was already midnight and I decided to leave cuz I was exhausted. I could not comprehend why?? I was seen by 5 different people and none couldn’t log in to print a simple discharge.paper. I was exhausted and not only mine but the other patients in the waiting room frustration levels were sky high so I decided to leave without discharge papers and without the medicines. And swear I will never go back. I honest receive better care in the Local Dorado Emergency Clinic. The reason I didn’t go to the Dorado Emergency Clinic it was I needed the X-rays done and in that clinic they don’t provide X-rays services.

Listening to the facts around Aaron Leavitts death, and the outpouring of other experiences at doctors hospital is deeply disconcerting, frustrating and terrifying. There are very deep resources here, financially, and intellectually to help remedy this. This is not my area of expertise, but it’s 62 year old and through plenty of medical adventures, including my own throat, cancer, and various orthopedic injuries, my sons, epilepsy and neurological challenges, and another family members breast cancer. I certainly understand healthcare from a consumers perspective and proper care. Thankfully, Dan Richards, Andrew Keys, and others are expert in medical facilities and are willing to work with you to remedy the issues that you are having. I hope that things are remedied very quickly so that no one else is seriously injured or dies unnecessarily.
With the hospital in its current (understaffed) state, our family would immediately drive to a different hospital in case of an emergency. This is so unfortunate given what a beautiful and newrbfacility
On the morning of January 21 I was rushed by my husband at 4:30am with painful chest pain. After fourth minutes of filling out papers I was treated for Acid Reflux. Three days later I was told that I had a Clot and one of my main arteries blocked. I had a Cateterisms done at the Cardiovascular Hospital in San Juan. I had a stroke while filling out their protocol papers. I was discharged with ten Zantac pills. My experience was and still is traumatic. I told them since I was carried in that I was having a stroke!!!

I have used this facility and strongly agree the hospital and ER both need a lot of improvement. It’s disappointing to have a brand new facility nearby but unable to use because the care is not actually care.
Without proper emergency care for our families, Act 22 begins to look like a dubious and potentially deadly gambit.

I visited the hospital with two of my children on July 2022 and we were there for a total of nine hours. We were asked to be patient as there was only one doctor for the entire hospital. That was outrageous and completely unacceptable.
The hospital needs to serve its mission of being the leading healthcare facility in PR with comprehensive ER, Primary Care and Critical care services. And the current state of the hospital does not give that feeling.

I live in Dorado and recently had a serious medical emergency. I had to travel an hour to get to a hospital I could trust to have the facilities we needed to attend to the emergency, an open fracture of the fibula and tibia. I hope we can soon rely on a fully staffed, well trained and prepared Emergency room.
My greatest fear with this hospital has been that it would provide false sense of hope with the most precious thing we have - our lives. Why drive to San Juan when there’s a “state of the art” hospital on your doorstep? Sadly, the fear became a reality recently, and it will no longer be tolerated without accountability. It’s time for everyone involved in the building and operations of this facility to take ownership. It’s irresponsible, heartless (I’m shocked it’s not illegal) to advertise as a hospital or an emergency facility unless those services can be provided. Please do better.

The hospital is not properly staffed thus not safe. Went to the emergency room for a broken bone. Was informed the only doctor on duty left to San Juan to donate blood and another doctor would not be on shift for another few hours. An emergency room without a doctor is worthless.

I have had my own regrettable experiences in this ER. Have been there for over 8 hours with no attention. Went due to elevated blood pressure, dizziness and pain on my left calf. Hadn’t eaten all day and there was just bananas and juice in the cafeteria. Simply left to eat. Got billed later by mail.

I had a family member wait hours in the emergency room to be treated. It got so late that everyone at the desks left and didn’t even explain anything to the patient as to wether or not xrays or anything else would be done.

The Dorado Hospital is a disgrace. I was marketed Johns Hopkins Hospital by the Dorado Beach real estate sales people and this hospital is completely unuseable and criminally negligent. People are dying.
I went through similar experiences personally and with my family. My daughter went in with Covid symptoms and was not seen by a Dr because there was not a Dr available. She spend almost 8 hours in the waiting area. She finally walked away to another medical facility. I am glad that this petition is available. The community deserves better service.

We are a young family in dorado and are sickened at the loss of life mentioned in this petition, we know the family and it is heartbreaking to know it could possibly have been prevented. We chose this past weekend to take our daughter to a separate facility in Bayamon for an X-ray following an accident at the beach because we are aware of the substandard care people have received at OH. I have heard conversations with locals around how much (or how little) the staff is paid there particularly taking into account that there is a preference for bilingual staff and so from my perspective that is the first thing that needs to be addressed.

It’s the nearest hospital I have as a neighbor of Paseos de Dorado (community between Sabanera and the Ritz).
I went to Orlando health’s emergency room complaining of heart palpitations and chest pains. No one had even taken my vitals after 3 hours of waiting so I left and found another solution.
Last November I went to ER for a cat bite that got infected. I was in a lot of pain. I waited there for almost four hours and when asked how much longer I was told a few more hours. I got up and left. The waiting room wasn’t that busy so I have no idea why I had that wait

I live very close to this beautiful Hospital and I need for it to be prepared for any emergency we might encounter. This is a must, as we are far away from a major Hospital and OH/DM is supposed to be qualified as a major Hospital. What I saw at the tour they gave us at the beginning was exactly that.
My children have suffered medical emergencies, and when needing services from OH, we have had to wait for more than 6 hours without any emergency pediatric physician available. We now know it is best to use facilities outside of Dorado, when possible.

I know many neighbors who had terrible experiences at the emergency room at this hospital. I also took my best friend there with chest pain and they said that we had to wait for more than 4 hours to start checking her. There is no real urgent care or attentions to patients at this emergency room. How many patients have to die before someone changes this situation?
I fully support this as everything Dan has stated in his letter is spot on and much needed to fill this large void in emergency care for the community of Dorado.
My wife and I took our 9 y/o son to the ED and was given a wrong diagnose to a pain in the right eye. Fortunately we chased a second opinion and were able to catch a badly infection in the eye on time. The OH physician wrongly diagnosed a migraine pain that may have caused the lost of the vision to our son.

I have a daughter with Spinal Muscular Atrophy , a reason to move in close to a hospital. However, to my surprise they are not knowledgeable in draw-out blood for her lab works. Including , I have ask to have a vein sonogram to be able to find her veins

Both of my kids visited the pediatric ER, and it was a frustrating, long wait until we finally were helped. I hate going to that hospital as I am sure it'll take mostly waiting of 5-6 hours for some basic tests.
I admitted myself to this ER back in December of 2023 because I had gotten food poisoning and was vomiting profusely . I at the time was also 7 months pregnant so my abdomen was in pain and I was worried for my son. Orlando Hospital was the closest ER and I needed medical attention asap. I waited in the lobby for about 2 hours before being seen by a nurse who took my vitals. The doctor explained that I would be monitored and given an IV, I was then given a room where they were attaching a heart monitor to my belly to watch for my babies heart rate. 1. The nurses didn’t know how to set it up. I was told by one of the nurses that the hospital doesn’t really have a OBGYN department 2. I was left in that room for 3 hours and no one saw us and I didn’t receive an IV. My husband went to the front desk to ask why I hadn’t received any treatment. The doctor spoke to my husband and appeared frustrated that my husband had voiced his concerns. A nurse then finally came into the room and gave me a small IV and then 2 more hours came by and no one came in to check on us or change the IV bag that had been empty after an hour of having it in. Thankfully my baby and I were able to get through it but I believe if I would have had a more serious emergency it would have ended poorly due to the lack of competence.

I took my son to emergency (minor at that time) with pain in the testicles and after all there was no personnel for sonogram that night and since he was minor we couldn't leave the hospital. MCS is not available either
I was very happy when the hospital finally opened in Dorado, especially having a small kid it reassured me to have a structure nearby in case of emergency. However, after experiencing hours of wait in the pediatric ER and same with the regular ER, with long wait and poor treatment due to lack of specialized doctor ( last two times I have been there my daughter, after hours of waiting, has been visited by a regular doctor as the pediatric wasn't on shift) I am very hesitant unfortunately to consider it again. It doesn't help that literally almost everyone I know has had the same experience I did, unfortunately. Hopefully it will be managed differently and improved soon as as citizens we should be able to have an efficient and safe hospital nearby. Thank you

The hospital should be leading but it hasn’t been managed well resulting in a lack of trust in services and likely a decline in revenue opportunities…and thus a decline in services. This downward spiral must be arrested for the future of the hospital and health/safety of our community.

My name is Dr Maria Renta-Soto When our Dorado hospital initially opened its doors (as Sabanera Health), I was the Associate Medical Director of the Emergency Department. I can assure you back then we had an excellent team of Doctors and Health Staff in general. Since the administration was taken over by Doctors Center, the quality of service has been on a steady decline, and most of the Dorado neighbors will not use the services of Orlando Health Dorado because of their history of negligence and terrible reputation. Waiting hours to be seen are very long, and the staff is inexperienced, unprepared, and scarce at best. It is a shame such wonderful structural resources are being wasted in a mediocre administration. This is our town and most of us want to see our closest hospital thrive and become an institution we can trust again. You can reach out to me for any additional input. My personal number is public.

Previously have a very bad experience with the ER, when I took my son to have stitched an open wound on his finger, we had to wait 4 hours to be treated, the open was big enough to reached his nerve. We had to pay for the visit, since the hospital did not have a contract with MCS Life Insurance, a very well known health plan in PR. However, the emergency room was full of patients of the PR welfare health plan. I am a resident of Sabanera Dorado and I regret that this hospital is characterized by providing such a poor service.
Completely agree with the petition. Orlando Health has great facilities in Dorado but the service is very deficient. They should aspire to provide top quality concierge medical services to a community that needs it and is willing and able to pay for these services.

My mother was hospitalize and it was the worst experience we had to go through because of the lack of medical attention she needed and inhuman treatment. The list of unethical and malpractice she went through is so extensive that I would rather write or have a personal meeting with a person who can really make a different and not just get the understaff answer because the staff themself who are currently working are not apt to work with patients .I strongly recommend to go to Manatí or the metro area instead of this incompetent ER.

Live in Sabanera Dorado, 5 mins from hospital. Went to the emergency room with an open leg cut that required severlal stitches. There were not doctors available to clean the deep cut and stitching me up for another 8 hours. Ran to a neighbor who is a surgen to help me get cleaned up and stitched.
We have had many unpleasant experiences with Orlando Health hospital. My most and worst experience was my recent one. We were waiting in the “so call” emergency room for a doctor to see my son who was experiencing high fever at the time. He had high fever for a few days but on that day the fever was at the highest 104 degrees so I rushed into the Orlando Health emergency room to have a doctor take a look. The whole process took 6-7 hours. We did not get home until 2am. I have ever had to wait that long to be seen by anyone let alone an emergency room. Add ion to that we couldn’t leave in the middle of our wait apparently by law it said once we signed in we cannot leave. I would have taken him to be seen by another doctor or to another hospital but I could not and made to wait until he gets seen by someone.

We trust that Orlando Health Hospital physicians and staff are located on-site and competent to deliver emergency and critical care to the Dorado Beach Community. Sadly this has not been the case. We lose trust and now avoid this facility when our neighbors share their experiences regarding inappropriate and sub-standard' emergency care of sick or injured babies, children, adults and elderly parents. My first encounter experience with this facility involved a sudden and unexpected “bleed out” when I was home alone recuperating from surgery. I immediately called the listed emergency numbers with no answer. I then called every number listed for the hospital with no answer. I left messages on clinic phone numbers with no answer and no follow up. We have frequent guests and have had to address significant injuries and illnesses. We are committed to working with Orlando Health to address and improve service delivery. Until we can trust that Orlando Health can deliver proper medical care for our loved ones, we will seek our healthcare elsewhere.
OH is a state of the art facility that is wasting away. Our community needs urgent access to reliable preventative and emergency/critical care.

When my youngest child saw renderings of the hospital that materialized into what is now OH he said, “The hospital looks beautiful. But I hope they didn’t spend all the money on the hospital and forget about the doctors.” In the moment, I assured him that could not possibly be the case, however I now know it most certainly is. We have a beautiful hospital in our community that is woefully understaffed to meet the needs of Dorado and the surrounding areas. I sign this petition in hopes this will change soon.
In addition to the problems outlined in other comments and the cover letter, I have read dozens of similar stories on local community pages. We have also discovered that they do not accept one of the top 3 medical insurances in Puerto Rico, which is typically accepted by every other single medical provider and/or hospital. Our family has chosen to drive a longer distance to a different hospital if an emergency were to present itself.

I can also share a frustrating visit, although not of the severity of the cover letter. I suffered a mid foot collapse breaking all my metatarsals and tarsals in dec 2021. During our visit in dec23/Jan 24, I had some problems with my ankle and went to the ER at your hospital. I left the waiting room after an hour. I had not even been called to register with triage. Pretty incredible. Later, I needed to get x-rays done as an outpatient. This process took 3 hours and was one of the worst healthcare experiences of my life. Scott Hilinski

My family and I are in full support of the needs listed in this letter. We have also experienced excessive wait times at Orlando Health. Our 2 year suffered a terrible fall and hit her head, knocking her unconscious. We rushed to OH where we waited an hour to see a pediatrician who staff said was late to work and had been called several times. We then waited an hour for a CT scan and then 3 hours for results. We will not be returning to OH until changes have been made.

I agree with this. The health care is horrible. I myself had a similar issue. My husband was having horrible pains in his stomach. He is a leukemia survivor with a bone marrow transplant. We went to the hospital and were not even triaged for hours. After four hours we recieved a call from Federico Stubbe who said he heard we weee at the emergency room. Why didn’t we call him. We never thought we had to pull strings to be seen. He called over and they called us to just do the triase. Then we sat for two more hours, still not seen. The waiting room was not even that crowded. We left because he was starting to feel better. Again, I went for food poisoning myself. It was the middle of the night and nobody was there. They took me in but again would not see me. They said the doctor there was not going to see me because he was getting off in an hour, so I would have to wait until the next doctor came and they were not sure what time that would be because he is often late. I was in extreme pain and started screaming to be seen. Only to stop me from screaming would they see me. I am a lawyer who has a leading firm in NY and does medical malpractice. You are certainly opening yourself up to liability. I said to my husband we need to move out of Dorado if this does not improve. You have a serouuous ñroblem on your hands.

As a resident, I am terrified of going to your hospital if I should need any type of emergency care. I shouldn’t feel that way. One of the reasons I moved to Dorado was knowing their was a hospital nearby - I had no idea all the issues & I really think that with the current example you could implement meaningful change very simply and have the support of all the residents.

This is a very important initiative specially for all of us in the Dorado area. Medical care in Puerto Rico is in bad shape and having a facility in our town that can REALLY help people in case of emergency is a must. The hospital needs to operate efficiently or exit the market. In between is bad for the community that deserves better.
I cannot imagine the trauma experienced by the Leavitt and Richards’ family, and am greatly troubled to know a more experienced and attentive medical team could have prevented the outcome. We trust Dan’s knowledge of and experience in medical crises, and strongly support his recommendations. Secondarily, we support this petition because my family also suffered from our false belief in and the promises offered by and of the new facility. We not only experienced suboptimal care when we brought my 95 year old father-in-law to Orlando Health, but even more disheartening, a complete disregard for his basic comfort. We wound up leaving on our own and transporting him to Doctors’ Care Hospital in Manati. There, he was admitted, diagnosed and began treatment for pneumonia within a few hours.

I used the Hospital for an MRI which was performed quickly and the facility was beautiful. That said the follow up results took over two weeks because an actual Doctor want available to read it. That’s unheard off. Asa former resident of Windermere, Fl., I know first had this isn’t the case at OH in Orlando. The hospital here in Dorado needs a lot of help.
I think it’s irresponsible to have a “hospital” so ill equipped to handle emergencies or basic medical care.
I support collaboration seeking better outcomes. If there was fault it should be admitted as is the obligation of all doctors, lawyers and other professionals.
I recently gave birth and was told that if there was an emergency with my baby, this hospital would not be able to help me. It is a shame because if there is any emergency, you should not have to drive over 30 minutes to Centro Medico, we should be able to receive the care we need right here in our town. The hospital is beautiful and I have my OBGYN there but it still has a long way to go….

We were so excited to have a hospital in our community when they first began building it but we have heard these same kinds of stories too often. We would have liked to have a more full service hospital that we can trust and count on should there be an emergency. I’m shocked that they have such substandard treatment and no trauma unit. They completely missed what the community needed from this hospital to feel safe and secure. I hope they are willing to make the changes necessary to actually be useful and save lives.

Health is arguably the most important thing to our family. I am a registered nurse and my life and business have always been heavily focused on health and wellness. When moving to Dorado, we were sold on the idea of the coming great new Johns Hopkins hospital. It’s disconcerting to realize it’s not even set up to handle some basic emergencies.
We also had a very bad experience with our son who needed an X-ray. Waited hours and until my husband told them we were leaving did they listen. Even then we left due to it being such bad care.

I have not had any personal experience with the hospital, but from what I’ve heard from friends and neighbors is that it is best to avoid this hospital as it is critically understaffed. I really hope things can change. Our community needs a hospital we trust.
Two year ago my healthy 58 yr old wife suffered a fall and had a fractured pelvis. We went by ambulance to Orlando Health in Dorado PR. The doctor in the ER took forever to finally transfer het to another facility. Unless something improves, we would try to avoid this place. It’s a beautiful new facility that has very little services and staff.
I too have experienced disappointing service at OH when I arrived with my then-4 year old who had a drowning (he survived). October 2022 I arrived with no clear direction, reception pointed to a room and while holding my son I was left alone. Thank goodness for a close friend who happened to be in the waiting room (having waited 5 hours to be seen), who jumped up and was able to help guide me. My experience was disappointing and frustrating, to say the least.

I am a senior citizen retired who retired to PR. Having excellent medical services close to my home is important to me and I am willing to pay extra for the services.
Promise of good Healthcare was one of reasons our family moved to dorado.
I retired to PR 8 years ago and was excited when the new hospital was planned and opened. They were promising excellent healthcare and the option of concierge service. Since Orlando Health took over operations of the hospital, none of this happened. My experience in the emergency room was that medical services were adequate but it took three hours before we could check out.
Town and community of Dorado need proper local healthcare (as does the rest of the island), having built new state of the art facilities, should be able to attract and maintain equally qualified medical staff. Ultimately should be able to set the example islandwide.

We have a beautiful hospital I’m too scared to take my kids to as I don’t have faith the proper doctors are available.
This hospital shouldn’t be called a hospital. They don’t take emergencies seriously and do not work with a sense of urgency. The healthcare needs to be significantly improved here. I don’t have the energy to write everything out I want to say but I know Dan will convey my opinion.

My two year old daughter received terrible care at the ED. Our pediatrician advised us to go to the ED and sent us to with a form detailing her issue. The physician on duty refused to read it. He also could barely speak English. Our daughter was very ill and he sent her home with the wrong medications. Medications that a two year can NOT take. Our pediatrician was applaud and questioned if the physician was even a pediatrician.
Our community deserves better medical and urgent care facilities. A hospital operating without the necessary resources and readiness puts at risk the lives of patients.
Providing world class healthcare is a win-win-win for all stakeholders - patients, caregivers, shareholders, employees and the community.

My personal experience of this hospital's ER has been very poor. There is an urgent need to look into this and make an assessment on what's lacking in training and processes. We love here and a big hospital with good facilities is of no use of the staff is not trained and processes are not set.

I have personal experience with emergency services not helping my infant son on several occasions. It gives a false hope to be close to a hospital when that hospital isn’t able to provide necessary services .
As a long term resident of Dorado it is critical to have access to a good quality ER & trauma center locally. I hope that this opens a dialogue between OH and Dorado residents.

We have been in Dorado for 5 years now. I have two baby girls under the age of four and there needs to be an adequate, fully staffed, working hospital for our family. We moved our multi million dollar companies to this island with the hopes of a better future for our family; that cannot happen if an emergency happens and my family cannot get the proper care they need. This needs to be addressed for the sake of my family and the friends that have turned into family in our Dorado community. Our family needs this. Charge us anything you want; this needs to happen ASAP.

When my family and I were deciding to move to Dorado, a selling point was a brand new, state of the art hospital down the street. I am heart broken that we lost one of our own who could have potentially been saved. It is crucial that improvements be made immediately. We deserve better.
Hoping to live in Darado for many years and having good medical would allow me to do that.

My husband was also a patient at your “emergency dept” in need of urgent care and your ONE “er” doc was on lunch. While we are grateful he made it home, the experience we had at the facility was terrifying. The hospital is not only under staffed but poorly staffed.
As our town has grown so has the need to have a hospital with the capacity to attend critical emergencies that requires prompt attention . The emergency room at OH I think is lacking that capacity at this moment and lives can be lost if in need of that care.
Dorado needs enhanced medical care for emergencies at OH. Dramatic improvements need to happen, and happen fast before more tragedies happen here.

My family lives in the community and were disappointed in the quality of care available to us when we needed to take our, at the time, 20 month old to the “pediatric” emergency. We desperately need competent and consistent services.
I have also experienced a less than optimal interaction with Orlando Health Dorado. I am familiar with this tragic loss and the response from the hospital to the situation. We have an extremely motivated community willing to pay for world class healthcare.

I too took a neighbor to the ER after at fall late at night and received no urgent attention - I was climbing across the desk as I feared she had a brain bleed. She had a severe concussion from which she still suffers but had it been more serious , I fear what the outcome could have been.

I received no food, water, or blanket despite the freezing temperature inside the ED, and also no answers after I had a grand mal seizure out of no where and my fiancé was out of town. Luckily I had a friend come over as I knew I wasn't feeling well and she was there 5-10 min before I had the seizure. The doctor at the hospital after waiting 8 hours to even be seen, told me after doing a chest x ray that my head CT was normal. He spoke perfect English. I had to tell him and convince him for nearly 10 min they did a chest x ray and no head scans. He only believed me when I refused to leave until he looked and my paperwork instead of just telling me something completely false. As an active community member who is investing in making Puerto Rico, Dorado, and our surrounding communities better right now and for future generations, we are willing to donate and help support necessary services or new initiatives in the hospital if it would improve things.

My family has also had bad experiences with the hospital. Through admission to the urgent care we leaned that the hospital may not be equipped for many emergencies and lacks necessary medical equipment and doctors for many cases. It is not generally understood by the community that the hospital is not equipped, in fact I believe the view of the community is opposite due to the perception that a brand new hospital should be more reliable. I would feel more secure if a medical helicopter was available for emergencies to evacuate Dorado to a hospital that has specialized doctors and equipment to handle the severity of the emergency.
I currently have no confidence in the Orlando hospital in Dorado, which is right next to our house in Sabanera. In an emergency situation, I would drive to Manati which is much further... but likely a better outcome nonetheless.

Experienced the ER firsthand and it was a terrible experience... Sad thing is, it doesn't have to be.. State of the art facility is just sitting and decaying with no real use / staff. Let's fix it once and for all. Dan and Co. are great, smart guys. Listen to them, this is a serious problem.
I was hoping for a good hospital in PR, to raise the bar, better than the substandard usual practices of Doctor’s Hospitals in PR and many others. It seems that OH has delegated quality care on Doctor’s Hospitals administrators in PR which is very frustrating.

I have been to the ER twice. I was there the first time and waited 10 hours to he told you didn’t have an Infectious Disease doctor that I required even on staff. The second time I visited was because I had an infected PICC line. They told me they could not treat me because they didn’t install the PICC line. I had to go to a different hospital to treat my blood infection. Incorrect and illegal to refuse me care. The embarrassment this facility must be to your reputation. How you have let it go this long without correction must be a personal embarrassment.

The patient experience at Orlando Health Dorado is not viable. The online reviews are awful. And the two trips I’ve personally taken there with my children were very disappointing. But the the facility is beautiful and the potential is obvious. I hope this can be resolved.

The hospital has a tremendous physical plant, equipment, and location, which I saw first hand on a personal tour before it officially opened. However, it's clear from my personal experience bringing my son to the Emergency Room last year that the personnel, management and staffing are not on par with even a C-tier clinic in the U.S. It is an embarrassment that so much money went into building this hospital only to have it run so poorly. We have the fiscal means, the will and the human capital to solve this problem if the people running the hospital will allow us to engage and help solve this huge problem.

I actually passed out with a mild seizure in the waiting room to the emergency room waiting to be admitted. It wasn’t until that happened that anyone seemed to take us seriously or have any sense of urgency.
Currently, I do not feel safe going or bringing my collagen to this hospital.

We absolutely love living in Dorado. The only thing that would make us think about moving is the unreliable medical system here, especially in our town, Orlando Health. I had a terrible experience with my daughter at the Orlando pediatric ER, and I swear I'll never go through that again, no matter what. It's crucial we address this ASAP for the well-being of Dorado's residents and the town's future. Without reliable medical care, especially in emergencies, Dorado can't thrive..
I am a mother to two small children. I previously fought for my life in ICU and my daughter in NICU and I fully understand the importance and urgency of medical care when in emergency. I love where we live but the lack of urgent emergency medicine has made me question staying here. As if life is not valued. If I had lived here when my emergency happened: I would be dead. We need a proper emergency care team at our local hospital in Dorado, pr. Our citizens are worth it.
This community is my favorite that I’ve lived in. There is so much care for each other amongst its members. We are worried as a community, scared even, and we need better care—many of us had hoped that it would come from this hospital.

Our 4 year old daughter woke up screaming in pain in the middle of the night a couple months ago. We suspect she had a UTI. My wife and daughter spent EIGHT HOURS in the ER before being seen by a Doctor. They waited another hour to get antibiotics (ONLY IV offered for an 4 year old!!!) and two hours to be discharged. ELEVEN HOURS for child with UTI??? This is inexcusable. The ER was understaffed, poorly trained, unorganized and spoke no English. OH needs to fix this or no one from the community will go to your facility and your only patients will be the uninsured… We will never step foot in there again until we are given confidence that this has been fixed.
The whole community desperately needs a fully functioning hospital, especially emergency care. We want to partner with Orlando Helath to make this happen immediately.
